Browser Metadata controls which common metadata fields are shown in the Image Browser details panel.

Use this page when you want the Image Browser to show the fields you check most often, in the order that makes sense for your workflow. The list is meant for commonly used review fields such as filename, date taken, dimensions, exposure summary, Artist, Copyright, User Comment, and basic video details.

This page is read-only. It does not edit image metadata, and the app does not allow image metadata editing from this view. Source image files are not changed.

For a complete technical metadata tree, open Metadata Explorer. Metadata Explorer can show many more tags, including detailed TIFF, EXIF, MakerNote, XMP, and virtual metadata paths.

Available metadata

The Available metadata list contains metadata items that can be shown in the Image Browser metadata panel.

Each row shows:

  1. A friendly name, such as Date taken or Exposure1.
  2. The technical metadata path below it.

The technical path is useful when you are comparing this list with Metadata Explorer. Metadata Explorer exposes the same path model and can show many more metadata items than the Browser Metadata page.

Use the search box above the Available metadata list to filter the list by friendly name or technical path.

Selected metadata

The Selected metadata list is the ordered list shown in the Image Browser details panel.

Use this list to decide which common metadata fields are visible during normal browsing.

  1. Double-click an available item to add it.
  2. Double-click a selected item to remove it.
  3. Select an item and use the up or down buttons to change its order.
  4. Drag an item from Available metadata into Selected metadata to insert it where you want it.
  5. Drag within Selected metadata to reorder selected fields.
  6. Use the search box above Selected metadata to find an item in a long selected list.

When an item is selected, it disappears from Available metadata so the same metadata path is not added twice.

Reset

Reset restores the selected list to the app default set of common metadata fields.

The default list includes:

  1. Filename.
  2. Date taken.
  3. Dimensions.
  4. Exposure summary.
  5. Artist.
  6. Copyright.
  7. User Comment fields.
  8. Basic video filename, date, dimensions, and duration.

Image Browser Reset layout restores this same metadata list.

What changes in the Image Browser

Changes are saved immediately in app settings.

When you change the selected list, the Image Browser metadata panel updates to use the new fields and order. Metadata display still depends on the selected file type and on the cached metadata available for that file.

If a field is selected but the current image or video does not contain that metadata, that field may not appear for that file.

Read-only metadata review

Browser Metadata chooses what the Image Browser displays. It does not write metadata into files.

The app treats source images as read-only for metadata editing. It can read metadata, display cached metadata, search metadata, and ask the camera body to write supported metadata at capture time where that workflow is available, but it does not provide an image metadata editor.

Use Metadata Explorer when you need to inspect tags beyond the common browser display list.
