Guidance shows important app messages that may need your attention.

Some guidance is informational. Some guidance warns you about a setting, camera state, connection problem, or workflow risk. Critical capture problems can also appear as a Guidance error alert at the top of the app so they are hard to miss.

What the Guidance page shows

The Guidance page lists registered guidance items. Each item has a severity icon, a button to show the message again, a Help button when a help topic is available, and a reset button when the item was dismissed.

If the page is empty, no guidance items are currently registered.

Alerts at the top of the app

When ControlMyNikon needs immediate attention, it can show a Guidance alert at the top of the window. Read the title and message before continuing.

If several alerts happen before you close the alert, new messages are added to the existing alert area.

For capture failures, the alert is how you know the app detected a serious problem, such as a computer-side capture that could not be proven saved correctly. If the Body setting to disconnect after a critical capture save error is enabled, the camera may also disconnect so you do not keep shooting into the same save problem. Check the alert first, then open the Log for the detailed diagnostic information.

Resetting dismissed guidance

If you dismissed a guidance item and want to see it again, open Settings > Guidance and use Reset on that item.

Resetting an item does not change camera settings or workflow settings. It only allows that guidance message to appear again.
